NCLEX-RN Question 3

This NCLEX-RN question is brought to you by Rachel Allen Reviewers:

Q: Which of the following neuromuscular assessments would the nurse expect to find in a healthy term infant?

A. Absent stepping reflex
B. Asymmetrical Moro reflex
C. Positive Babinski reflex
D. Unilateral grasp reflex

Correct Answer: C
A positive Babinski reflex is a normal finding in a newborn. It does disappear by the first year of life. If on examination, the Babinski reflex is absent, it is significant and should be followed up with neurology consult.
