The rise of serious diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, osteoporosis, and certain types of cancers can be attributed to people’s lifestyle choices, ones that are filled with unhealthy diet, vices such as excessive smoking and drinking, and less physical activities.

Women Warned Against Heart Disease

Women warned vs cardiovascular diseases

MANILA, Philippines – Men are more prone to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) all throughout their lives. Women, on the other hand, are less likely to acquire CVDs during their reproductive years because they are protected by estrogen hormones. Women should not be complacent, though.

“For a long time, CVD was considered a man’s disease,” said Dr. Annette Borromeo, past president of the Philippine Heart Association (PHA). “Due to myths and the prevalence of women who put their well-being the least of their worries, the status of women heart health has deteriorated.”

152 Nursing Schools May Close By Next Year

152 nursing schools face closure for poor board performance

MANILA, Philippines – A total of 152 nursing schools face closure for registering poor passing percentages in the nursing licensure examinations over the past five years.

However, Emmanuel Angeles, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chairman, said the 152 nursing schools will be given another chance in next year’s nursing examinations.

“It’s a warning for them,” he said.
